dollar public saving ideas
Dollar General’s business model provides low-cost durables to underserved rural areas. Part of their strength is that they generally have low prices. But, there are some ways to reduce the already low price point.
1. Get the Dollar General app and sign up for paper coupons.
A good first step to saving at Dollar General is to get the mobile app and sign up for coupons. The app is available on your App Store on iPhone or Android. The link to sign up for their voucher program is over here.
2. Coupon stacking.
If you’re an expert, you can use up to three or four different paper coupons for the same item. Dollar General shoppers say this works better for electronic withdrawals than for in-person withdrawals.
3. Clearance sales work.
General dollar clearance sales frequently occur when store departments are updated, and/or products are discontinued. Seasonal items typically drop 50% the day after the holiday passes.
Another good general dollar savings idea is to combine redeemed items with coupons. The main idea here is to go to your local store, see what’s on clearance and check to see if there’s a coupon for that item in the Dollar General app. Look for brand name redemption items like Tide, Dial, Swiffer, Gain, etc., then scan the item to see if there are any coupons that can be attached if you purchase one, two or more items.
4. Dollar General has problems at work, so be polite.
While Dollar General is a very large retailer, it appears to have major labor problems. Here’s a recent reddit post by a Dollar General employee:
In addition, new local news stations covered employee dissatisfaction in a number of parts of the country, over hereAnd the over here And the over here. What this means is that Dollar General workers are underpaid and work under stressful and frustrating conditions. So, this also means that they are sometimes under pressure and may make your shopping experience more difficult if you are impolite.
5. Take advantage of military discounts.
Dollar General offers a 10% military discount on the second Wednesday of every month. This applies to those in active military service, but also to their immediate families. So, you just need a valid ID to claim this.
6. Take advantage of managerial inefficiency.
Consider shopping in a store that has staffing challenges and doesn’t make weekly price changes. If the store has not updated its prices recently, it will have to respect the price on the shelf.
